Maine Labor Mural - The Artist's StatementLate last month, Maine governor Paul LePage ordered the removal of a mural from the state's Department of Labor building. The mural depicts Maine's labor history. The reason given by the LePage administration for removing it is because the mural is "not in keeping with the department's pro-business goals."Maine Labor Mural - The Artist's Statement by Memnalar
This comes at a time of upheaval in the United States between several state governments and organized labor. LePage is currently embroiled in a fight against Maine's labor groups regarding his budget, which calls for cuts to retirement benefits for the state workers and teachers, among other proposals.
The mural's creator, artist Judy Taylor, posted a statement on her web site about these events. I'm re-posting that statement here:

Best of... weekly photomanip features #181This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007, from a conversation between Lareth and FrozenStarRo, who with the help of their friends Iardacil and SylwiaS , wanted to make something to promote known and unknown photomanipulators alike here on DeviantArt. In September 2009 ImaginaryRosse joined the project and helped us for a while. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board.Best of... weekly photomanip features #181 by FrozenStarRo
We each get to choose works that have made an impression on us from the past week. We do not base our choices on preference or friendships and we have never featured ourselves. We simply pick photomanipulations showing creativity, technique and quality at the same time, and are simply eye-catching. As we are also stock artists, we will only feature the works that give proper credits to stock artists.
